The D.E.N. Recovery Facial

The D.E.N. Recovery Facial is a 60-minute treatment for skin that is sensitised, compromised or recovering – after aesthetic procedures, over-active home routines, illness, seasonal flare-ups, or simply the demands of modern life. Rather than resurfacing or exfoliating hard, it works with the skin: calming inflammation, restoring hydration and strengthening the barrier, using seven products from the D.E.N. (Dr Engel Naturals) range across five gentle phases. It is delivered at Cosmetica London in Balham.

Why we created a facial for recovering skin

Most facials are built for skin that is thriving. In clinic, we see something different. A great deal of the skin that walks through our doors is not thriving but recovering – from too many actives at home, from procedures that need a settling window, from environmental stress, or from illness. That skin does not need more intensity. It needs support.

The D.E.N. range was created by our founder and Medical Director, Dr Mica Engel, during her own recovery from cancer treatment, when she could not find skincare gentle enough for skin that had been through so much.  That experience shaped a simple principle that runs through everything D.E.N. does: the skin already knows how to heal, repair and regenerate. Our role is to support it, not to push it. The Recovery Facial is that principle made into a treatment.

Recovery, not resurfacing

A resurfacing facial is designed to exfoliate and renew quickly – acids, tingling, a fast visible change. It has its place, and for the right skin it works well. The Recovery Facial is the opposite approach. There are no acids. Renewal comes from gentle enzymes instead. The pace is cool, slow and low-pressure, and the results build over a course rather than arriving all at once.

The two are not in competition. Many patients use a resurfacing treatment such as a HydraFacial for a glow, and the Recovery Facial to calm and rebuild the barrier afterwards. If you are not sure which your skin needs, that is exactly what a consultation is for.

Who it is for

This facial was formulated for reactive, sensitive and recovering skin. It tends to suit:

  • Skin that has been over-corrected at home – too much retinol or too many acids, and a barrier that has stopped coping
  • Skin recovering after a procedure such as injectables, laser or microneedling, where a calm, settled complexion matters
  • Skin that is easily irritated – rosacea-prone, reactive, or quick to flush and flare
  • Skin that struggles with the seasons – winter dryness, redness and tightness that returns each year

If any of that sounds familiar, this is likely the right treatment for you. If you are unsure, we will guide you at consultation.

What happens during the facial

The treatment runs across five phases, using seven D.E.N. products chosen to work together.

  1. Gentle cleansing– a sensitive-skin cleanser that lifts the day away without stripping the barrier
  2. Mineral-rich hydration mist– a prebiotic mist to prepare and support the skin
  3. Enzymatic renewal– gentle enzyme activity in place of acids, so the skin is renewed without being challenged
  4. Low-pressure lymphatic massage– a slow, restorative massage using our Essential Calm Serum, to reduce puffiness and help the skin settle
  5. Nourishing mask and barrier seal– a calming mask followed by a barrier-sealing gel to lock in comfort

The experience is deliberately cocooning: cool, quiet and unhurried. You should leave feeling that your skin has been cared for, not worked on.

What to expect afterwards

In the first 24 to 48 hours, most people notice their skin looks calmer and less red, feels more comfortable, and holds hydration better. Makeup tends to sit more easily.

The more meaningful change happens over a course. As the barrier strengthens, skin becomes less reactive and chronic sensitivity begins to ease. This is a treatment that compounds – the benefit is in the consistency, not in any single session.

How often should you have it

For skin that is reactive or compromised, we recommend a weekly treatment for four weeks to reset the barrier, followed by monthly maintenance to hold the results. As with all skin health, maintenance happens at home as much as in clinic, which is why every treatment ends with a simple home ritual to follow.

Combining with other treatments

The Recovery Facial works well alongside the rest of your skin plan. If you have had injectables, laser or a peel, we ask you to wait 48 hours before booking, so the skin has settled first. It also pairs naturally with in-clinic treatments such as  Profhilo and our wider injectable treatments, by keeping the skin calm and well-supported around them.

Is it suitable for sensitive skin, rosacea or eczema?

Yes – it was formulated specifically for reactive skin, and it suits rosacea-prone, eczema-prone and easily irritated skin. We carry out a patch test at your first visit. It is also safe in pregnancy, booked without the enzyme step. If you have an active infection, a cold sore or broken skin, we will ask you to rebook for when the skin has recovered.

Pricing

The D.E.N. Recovery Facial is £165 per 60 min session.

A recommended course of four is £595.
