Sports & Deep Tissue Massage FAQs

Is sports massage just for athletes?

Expand

Not at all. While it’s ideal for active individuals and athletes, Sports & Deep Tissue Massage is also very helpful if you:

  • Have chronic muscle tension (e.g. neck, shoulders, back)
  • Experience post-exercise soreness or tightness
  • Have posture or occupation-related discomfort (desk work, manual work, long driving)
  • Feel “knotted”, restricted or stiff in specific areas

Your therapist will tailor the treatment to your activity level, lifestyle and comfort – you don’t have to be a high-level athlete to benefit.

What is Sports & Deep Tissue Massage - and how is it different from a relaxing massage?

Expand

Sports & Deep Tissue Massage at Cosmetica London is a targeted, clinically informed treatment that focuses on the deeper layers of muscles and soft tissues. The goal is to address tension, stiffness, overuse patterns and mobility issues, rather than simply to relax. Unlike a general spa-style massage, every session is informed by a physiotherapy assessment, so techniques and pressure are chosen based on your anatomy, movement patterns and specific problem areas.

Does Sports & Deep Tissue Massage hurt?

Expand

Deep tissue and sports work can feel intense at times, especially on tight or overworked muscles, but it should never feel unbearable. At Cosmetica London:

  • Pressure is always adapted to your tolerance and physical needs
  • You’re encouraged to give feedback throughout the session
  • The aim is to create productive release, not push through pain

You may feel some post-treatment soreness (like after a good workout), which usually settles within a day or two. Your therapist can suggest simple aftercare (hydration, gentle movement, stretches) to help.

How many sessions will I need, and how frequently should I come?

Expand

It depends on your goals and what we’re treating:

  • For acute tightness or a specific flare-up, a short block of sessions close together may be recommended.
  • For ongoing training support or posture-related issues, many people benefit from regular maintenance (e.g. every 3–6 weeks).
  • If you’re preparing for or recovering from events, we can time sessions around your training cycles.

Your physiotherapist will discuss a realistic plan based on your activity level, symptoms, schedule and budget – with the aim of helping you move better, feel looser and support your body long term.
