Plasma Pen Skin Tightening FAQs

Plasma pen treatment is a non-surgical intervention which tightens and lifts the skin, smoothing and freshening the complexion.  It’s particularly effective in treating droopy or loose skin around the eyelids as it is known for being a gentle and low pain treatment.

The pen emits a small arc of plasma, which vaporises instantly, tightening the area and forcing the skin to make collagen and elastin during the repair phase.

Results are immediate yet continue to improve as the skin surface heals.

Every patient will receive an individual consultation in which our practitioners are able to prescribe the best treatments for your specific concerns.  During a Plasma pen treatment, your clinician will use an A|C|C|O|R Cosmetic Corrector plasma pen to fire small arcs of plasma above your skin.  

We’ll invite you to come in 30 minutes before your treatment so we can prepare your skin with a topical anaesthetic cream to minimise discomfort.  You’ll then be comfortably settled on one of our hydraulic treatment chairs throughout, whilst soft music and lighting will help to relax you. 

Aftercare is extremely important with Plasma Pen treatment.  The scabs must be left alone to heal and fall off naturally.  This means no:

• Water or steam
• Creams other than any provided 
• Makeup except medical foundation prescribed by your clinician
• Sports, sweating or sauna
• Sunbathing or sun exposure
• Cooling
• Scratching or rubbing

This applies for the duration of the scabbing process.

There aren’t many major barriers to treatment but please do tell your clinician if you are:

• Taking medication or have had a recent medical procedure
• Susceptible to cold sores
• A regular smoker

Your professionally qualified clinician will also ask you a number of other medical history questions to ensure this skin tightening treatment is best for you.

Many people notice a difference immediately after treatment, but the tightening effect improves as the skin heals, becoming most noticeable between 1-3 months afterwards.

This skin tightening treatment is permanent, but the effects will fade with continued ageing of the skin.  Generally people find they don’t need to seek further treatment for at least 3-6 years.

Immediately after the procedure, you will see a series of small red dots which may feel warm and tender.  Each tiny 1mm area the plasma vaporises over will form a small scab in the days following treatment.  It’s extremely important to follow the aftercare instructions given to you by your clinician to maximise the effect of treatment and promote healing.

To reduce swelling you can take Arnica D6 homoeopathic tablets.

There is a low risk of hyper-pigmentation in the treated areas, but this risk can be lowered substantially by avoiding the sun altogether. Avoid using SPF cream until the scabs have fallen off and wear sunglasses to help protect the area on sunny days.

This can depend on the type of treatment and size of the area treated.  Generally speaking, only one treatment is required for an effective tightening and rejuvenating effect.  Any follow up treatments may only be done 12 weeks after the initial procedure.

As skin continues to age, you may find you need further treatments some years later.
