Profhilo FAQs
What is Profhilo?
ExpandProfhilo is a cosmetic injection which puts a concentrated hyaluronic acid solution deep into the skin. This stimulates four different types of collagen and elastin growth resulting in significant tissue improvement. Profhilo injections consist of a stabilised gel which slowly releases the hyaluronic acid over a period of around 28 days, leading to a boosting, rejuvenating effect.
Whilst Profhilo treatments are hyaluronic acid based, just like dermal fillers, their effect is quite different. That’s because fillers stay where they’re put, to provide volume or structure, whereas Profhilo is a more holistic treatment which spreads beneath the skin, offering overall skin moisturisation and renewal rather than changing the shape of the face.
What should I expect during my Profhilo treatment?
ExpandEvery patient will receive an individual consultation in which our doctors are able to prescribe the best treatments for your specific concerns. During a Profhilo treatment, your clinician will use a very fine needle to inject the Profhilo into the relevant areas.
We’ll invite you to come in 15 minutes before your treatment so we can prepare your skin with a topical anaesthetic cream to minimise discomfort.
Your treatment, including initial consultation, will take around 30 minutes. You’ll be comfortable on one of our hydraulic treatment chairs throughout, whilst soft music and lighting will help you feel relaxed.
Is Profhilo suitable for everyone?
ExpandProfhilo should not be used in areas with an existing infection, and it is not recommended if you are unwell in any way, if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or if you are taking certain medications. Our team will always ensure any treatment is right for you before beginning.
How soon will I notice the results?
ExpandYou’ll see a visible difference in the quality of the skin within a few days, but the full effect takes around a week to develop. However, the best results are seen after the second treatment.
For maintenance, we suggest one treatment every 5 months or so.
Is Profhilo permanent or how long will it last?
ExpandProfhilo injections are not permanent but they do last well. Whilst the slow release effect of the active ingredient lasts around 28 days, the effect on the skin remains for between 4-6 months.
What side effects are possible with Profhilo injections?
ExpandSome patients can find the injections themselves a little painful and after the treatment can feel a sensation of heat, reddening or swelling. You may find small lumps where the product is injected but these usually settle within 24 hours. Injection points on the cheekbones may take longer to disappear and could remain for up to 48 hours.
How many Profhilo treatments will I need?
ExpandWe advise two Profhilo treatments, given four weeks apart, for best results.
We recommend a single top-up treatment every 5 months to maintain the effects.
