Profhilo FAQs

What is Profhilo?

Expand

Profhilo is a cosmetic injection which puts a concentrated hyaluronic acid solution deep into the skin. This stimulates four different types of collagen and elastin growth resulting in significant tissue improvement.   Profhilo injections consist of a stabilised gel which slowly releases the hyaluronic acid over a period of around 28 days, leading to a boosting, rejuvenating effect.

Whilst Profhilo treatments are hyaluronic acid based, just like dermal fillers, their effect is quite different.  That’s because fillers stay where they’re put, to provide volume or structure, whereas Profhilo is a more holistic treatment which spreads beneath the skin, offering overall skin moisturisation and renewal rather than changing the shape of the face.

What should I expect during my Profhilo treatment?

Expand

Every patient will receive an individual consultation in which our doctors are able to prescribe the best treatments for your specific concerns.  During a Profhilo treatment, your clinician will use a very fine needle to inject the Profhilo into the relevant areas.

We’ll invite you to come in 15 minutes before your treatment so we can prepare your skin with a topical anaesthetic cream to minimise discomfort.  You’ll then be comfortably settled on one of our hydraulic treatment chairs throughout, whilst soft music and lighting will help to relax you.

The treatment will consist of a number of these small injections but the process is rapid.  Your initial consultation (for new patients) will take around 15 minutes and the injections themselves only about 10 minutes.

Is Profhilo suitable for everyone?

Expand

We don’t recommend Profhilo for those under 30 years old.  The best results are seen in the 40-50 age group, but it’s still really effective in older patients and those in their 30s find excellent results too.

How soon will I notice the results?

Expand

You’ll see a visible difference in the quality of the skin within a few days but the full effect takes around a week to develop. However, the best results are seen after the second treatment.

For maintenance we suggest one treatment every 6 months or so.

Is Profhilo permanent or how long will it last?

Expand

Profhilo injections are not permanent but they do last well.  Whilst the slow release effect of the active ingredient lasts around 28 days, the effect on the skin remains for between 4-6 months.

What side effects are possible with Profhilo injections?

Expand

Some patients can find the injections themselves a little painful and after the treatment can feel a sensation of heat, reddening or swelling.  You may find small lumps where the product is injected but these usually settle within 24 hours.  Injection points on the cheekbones may take longer to disappear and could remain for up to 48 hours.

How much does it cost?

Expand

For all treatment costs, see our Price List.

How many Profhilo treatments will I need?

Expand

For some patients, the full effect of treatment isn’t as visible after just one treatment.  That’s because the advised procedure is two Profhilo treatments, given four weeks apart.

To maintain the effects, we recommend having a single top-up treatment every 5 months.  Each treatment is charged at full cost.
